CHAPTER
4
FUTURE PROGRAMME OF WORK
4.1We have been advised by the
Administration's representative that the Government intends to
ask the Commission to conduct a review of the qualification
benchmarks to ensure that existing entry benchmarks in the civil
service are still comparable to those of the private sector.
Depending on the scope of the review, presently under
consideration by the Administration, this is likely to be a task
of significant magnitude for the Commission in 1998.
4.2Notwithstanding the hectic programme that
lies ahead, the Commission will continue to work within our Terms
of Reference and tender advice on any other proposals from the
Administration dealing with changes to the structures of
individual grades and to salaries and conditions of service in
the civil service. Another important aspect of our work which we
have found most useful and rewarding is our liaison with the
seven major civil service staff associations. We will continue to
hold informal meetings with them next year. We will also maintain
contact with organisations outside the civil service to ensure
that we keep abreast of developments relevant to the discharge of
our duties and responsibilities.
